This shield can play up to 22KHz, 12bit uncompressed audio files of any length. It has an onboard DAC, filter and op-amp for high quality output. Audio files are read from a commonly-available SD/MMC card. Volume can be controlled with the onboard thumbwheel potentiometer. Audio is played asynchronously as an interrupt, so the Arduino can perform tasks while the audio is playing.

Output is mono into both left and right channels on a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and there are connections for a directly-connected speaker which is disabled when the headphones are unplugged. A driver library and example files are available.
